*sigh* I"m not sure why I keep trying to like Wonder Woman and the Wonder Woman origin story. This version (A novelization based on the DC Animated movie) is just like the others, misogynistic, even though it tries to say it isn't in the text of the novel. Actions speak louder than words and nearly everything in this book screams 'man great and powerful, woman in kitchen barefoot grrrr...' (Hell it makes Goodkind's Sword of Truth series look like tomes of feminism).

Anyway, it's the basic Wonder Woman origin story brought to the current time. Though it's Ares that enslaves the Amazons, not Hercules, and there's no girdle. Then the Amazons are freed (with a surprisingly bloody battle, or at least it was bloody in the novel, at the point of reading I hadn't yet seen the movie. Yikes), and Diana is created with mud and blood. Eventually a man comes crashing to theirs shores and after that Diana has to escort him back to the US (and they also have to find and stop Ares). And so begins the regular old story of another Wonder Woman.

The sad thing is that while the story sucked, the writing was really, really good. A whole star good. Each of the characters had their unique sound and quirks and the dialogue was snappy and kept my attention. (Plus, the battle scenes were superb).

I guess I'll keep looking for a good non-misogynistic Wonder Woman story, and until then, stick with the kick butt Batwoman and Oracle stories. ( )
