In my opinion, BOTM suffers from a lack of reality, with the heroine being so over the top in her psychic ability and a series of events so completely engineered by the evil villain. There is also the push-pull back of the H/h's relationship, when one is receptive, the other pulls away and vice versa, a commonly used ploy to stretch out the middle of any romance plot.
