There are several good poems in the book to read to the students so they can visualize in their minds the poems I read aloud. I like this book/poetry collection for two reasons. First of all, I like that there are many poems from different poets such as Langston Hughes, Eve Mariam, and Ogden Nash. I also liked the writing in this story. It was very well organized and flows well with rhyming. Each poem is about eight lines or shorter which makes it a perfect book for K-4th graders to read and interpret. The illustrations are very kid-friendly as they have vibrant colors to engage readers. The main idea of this book is to explore poetry at a young age. More Pocket Poems Selected by Bobbi Katz and Illustrated by Debora Zemke (2009) I liked More Pocket Poems selected by Bobbi Katz and Illustrated by Debora Zemke for three reasons. First, I liked how the poems took you through the seasons. For example, the book began with poems about spring and the concepts related to spring and then went through summer, fall, and winter. Second, I liked the watercolor and pastel illustrations. Specifically, the illustrations directly relate to each poem, and they help readers get a better idea of what the poems are about. For example, on page four, the illustration that accompanies Rain Dance displays a boy in a yellow jacket and a matching yellow hat and the actual words in the poem read, “When I wear my yellow slicker with its matching yellow hat…” thus, it is clear that the photo supports the poem. Lastly, I liked how some of the poems incorporated the Spanish language. For instance, José in Spring: La Primavera on page three contains several Spanish words that describe spring. Overall, the “big idea” of More Pocket Poems is to suggest to children that not all things can be touched or seen; however, one can capture those things in a poem and place the poem in their pocket. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
