Carnophile: Who'd win in a fight between the Locke Lamora gang and the Kaz Brekker gang? I NEED to see this. No, it's not a contest, but boy would that be a fun read.
"Fantasy meets Ocean's 11" or somwthing like that was promised. It starts out fine, but the humour gets cut out more and more and you're left with a listless tale of double- and triplecrosses and lots of boring shit.
I have too many books to read, that series is over for me. ( )
Als Waisenkind wird Locke Lamora in eine Bande von Gaunern aufgenommen. Jahre später ist er selbst der Anführer dieser Bande, den Gentlemen-Ganoven. In der faszinierenden Stadt Camorr gehen er und seine Freunde in aller Heimlichkeit ihrem Handwerk nach und berauben die Aristokraten der Stadt im grossen Stil. Dabei treiben sie nicht nur ein Katz-und-Maus-Spiel mit ihren Opfern, sondern auch mit dem Anführer aller Diebe. Alles läuft gut und man pflegt einen angenehmen Lebensstil, doch dann taucht der geheimnisvolle und skrupellose Graue König auf. Dies ist ein farbenprächtiger Fantasy-Roman, der in einer fremdartigen Stadt handelt. Die Gentlemen-Ganoven sind eine eingeschworene Bande mit Stil. In kleinen Rückblenden, Zwischenspiel genannt, wird der Werdegang vom Waisenkind zum Gentleman-Ganoven geschildert. Das Buch ist sehr spannend geschrieben und hat mich gefangen genommen. Leider hat es ein paar ziemlich brutale Szenen, welche in ihrer Detailtreue nicht unbedingt nötig wären. ( )
Wirklich nur zu empfehlen! Die Story ist spannend bis zum Schluss und sehr flüssig geschrieben. Man kann schon sagen das sich das Buch wie von alleine liest. Zur Story selbst will ich nicht so viel sagen um nicht das Vergnügen des Lesens zu schmälern. Nur ein paar Anmerkungen. Die Hauptpersonen sind Diebe (Gentelman-Ganoven) die Ihrem Handwerk in einer stark an Venedig erinnernden Stadt zur Zeit der Aufklährung nachgehen. Natürlich treffen Sie auf Gegner, die nicht immer auf der anderen Seite des Gesetzes stehen. Extrem kurzweilig und hoch spannend. ( )
Für Jenny, die diese kleine Welt damit beglückte, daß sie über meine Schulter spähte, während das Buch Gestalt annahm. Ich hab dich lieb!
