Apples are an amazing fruit. There are all different kinds of apples and different ways they can be incorporated into our favorite foods. This book takes you through the steps of growing apples then all the different ways they are used. This book would be better for a younger age just learning about this type of subject. The book gives a lot of information on apples in an easy way for children to understand.

APPLES tells of the process of growing apples, how they are pollinated, and how they are harvested. It describes the process for making apple juice and cider and what apples are used in. The "More About Apples" at the end of the book gives more details and points of interest about apples, including sayings withe "apple" in it and what it means. On the last page there are pictures and labels of the different types of apples. The pictures are beautiful and help the story of apples come alive. It is simple and should be used for younger children. It can be a great starter book for learning about apples and then going into activities such as apple prints, tasting different apples, and graphing the students favorite kind of apple. ( )

This was a great nonfiction book. It gave so much information on apples and how they come to be, but did so in a way that all students can understand. This would be a great book to read before a field trip to the apple orchard. It would also be a great to use when talking about pollination and what happens after a fruit plant is pollinated. I would really like to use this book in a future classroom. ( )

APPLES is a great concept book for young students who want to learn more about this fruit. In my kindergarten classroom, we spend many weeks talking about healthy foods to eat. This book would make a great addition to these units. The author spoke with different apple farmers to write this book, so the information is accurate. The real photographs help enhance the text. While there are no access features in this book, the organization is logical. Students can see what happens to apples from seed, or in this case a tree graph, to harvest to apple products. The author also uses language that is easy for students to understand and explains any words that might be unfamiliar within the context of the story. This book introduces students to how apples come to be in grocery stores and farmers markets. ( )
