Rose Drayton lives on the Edge, between the world of the Broken (where people drive cars, shop at Wal-Mart, and magic is a fairy tale) and the Weird (where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny). Only Edgers like Rose can easily travel from one world to the next, but they never truly belong in either. Rose thought if she practiced her magic, she could build a better life for herself. But things didn't turn out how she planned, and now she works a minimum wage, off-the-books job in the Broken just to survive. Then Declan Camarine, a blueblood noble straight out of the deepest part of the Weird, comes into her life, determined to have her (and her power). But when a terrible danger invades the Edge from the Weird, a flood of creatures hungry for magic, Declan and Rose must work together to destroy them—or they'll devour the Edge and everyone in it...… (mehr)

Loved it! Fascinating world, great characters and so well written! I'm off to find the next book in the series. ( )

Probably would have rated this higher if the romance had been stretched along a couple of books. The insta-love dropped it down a star. ( )

I love the way Ilona Andrews makes their world. It's so creative and constructive. I have never read a book such as this where there are three different realms all on the same plane. Once I really got into this book, it was hard for me to put it down. If I had, had more time I would've been done with this a whole lot sooner than what I am. But such is life. The characters were dynamic, the lead female wasn't a push over, but wasn't a complete hard ass either. The guy of course gorgeous as all get out. The boys loved them. The story line was unique, engrossing, and very entertaining. Ilona Andrews inspires me, that maybe one day I will be as good as them. ( )

Generally I liked this book. I felt that I could identify with the heroine on a lot of different levels, and she was likable in a blue collar way that not a lot of authors touch on. This heroine struggles to feed her two brothers, barely makes ends meet, and I feel that the author struck gold in writing this in. A lot of readers will relate to that, making the way the character behaves much more understandable. I also liked the character growth throughout the book, and how the heroine did not just tell people not to do things, but explained to them that if they were to do those things, the repercussions they would have in her life.

I don't want to spoil anything big, so I will just say that if you have read anything by this author previously, this is an excellent addition to your book shelf. If you have not, I recommend grabbing your keys or your kindle and hooking yourself up for Christmas. Her heroines are real, genuine, and I expect someday to meet Rose at Wal-mart, or Kate on the street. ( )

[Declan to Georgie and Jack after Rose orders him out of the house]

'The first rule of etiquette a boy learns when he's about to enter society is that civility is due all women. No provocation, no matter how unjust and rudely delivered, can validate a man who fails to treat a woman with anything less than utmost courtesy.'

The boys hung on his every word. He glanced in her direction.

'I have met some incredibly unpleasant women, and I have never failed in this duty. But I must admit: your sister may prove my undoing.' (chapter 5)
