I was a bit surprised by how mellow this Danielle Steel book was. It tells the story of Alexa, a woman once married to someone from the south. Following an affair and a divorce, she moves to New York with her daughter and goes into law. A dramatic murder trial means that Alexa has to send her daughter back to the south for her protection. The story ends up focusing more on past relationships and healing them with only the last few chapters for a gentle romance. It was enjoyable to read but I was expecting the last few chapters to happen earlier or for something more dramatic to happen overall. ( )
