The Midnight Club

I can cheerfully report that this is one of the worst novels I have ever read. It is absolutely and unforgivingly awful and bad. You can see the joins where short sections of text have been cobbled together. Every scene contains, sometimes entirely, exposition. Patterson has to tell us everything that has and is happening because he is apparently entirely incapable of showing us and simply telling the story... at least I think he is... sometimes it can be hard to tell because his grasp of English is so poor. He uses 'either' instead of 'each' . Not only does he change viewpoint many times within each section of text, he changes the subject of sentences within each paragraph and leaves us to guess what he means.

In the last book I read, a man resurrected his dead cat and I found it easier to suspend my belief while reading that than I did at any point during this 'novel'. Patterson cannot make even the most normal things believable. During the 'humans interact with each other' scenes I found myself wondering if Patterson where actually a member of our species. If it weren't for the fact that Microsoft Word's spellchecker was more comfortable with English than he is I could easily believe a computer had arranged the words I have just read.

Patterson at no point displays anything approaching intelligence, but working on the assumption that he does possess some, then this is an insult to his customers. If any homo enjoys this book I would question the appellation sapiens. I envy those animals who cannot read it.

I have given it an extra star because at under 300 pages it is relatively short and as there is nothing of interest on any of the pages they appear to fly past.
