This is consider a classic early science fiction story of a chemist who uses an ultra-powerful microscope to look into a gold ring and sees a beautiful young woman --a resident of an entire miniature universe. He develops pills that permit him to shrink himself to her size, and later brings four friends down with him. He is in love with the young woman, and he and his friends become heavily involved in the politics of the miniature world, aided by the fact that they can (by swallowing calculated doses of the pills) turn themselves into giants without outgrowing the word completely. However, despite this advantage they are not permanently successful in dealing with a social revolutionary called Targo who overthrows the king who is the young woman Lyldra's father.
