Evaluation/Argument: The American Girl books do a great job approaching any topic, especially divorce, in a way that is easy for girls to read about and become informed. Approaching all aspects of divorce is greatly beneficial to girls so that when something arises they know how to approach the situation. I love that this book has advice for girls. Girls are also able to write letters asking for advice and encouraged to express how they are feeling. I feel that this is a great strategy to use so that girls can see that they are not going through their parents' divorce alone. They should be able to see that there are other girls out there that have gone through the same situation as she has. As a child I read other American Girl books so I vividly remember reading very similar books to this one.
The central message of the book is to tackle the topic of divorce so that girls understand that they can face this obstacle and are strong enough to overcome it. This book also focuses on the changes that occur during divorce and the effects they have on the whole family. ( )
