The story picks up where Lesley Martin s first book (To Die Like a Dog) left off, at the point she has attempted to assist her terminally ill mother s suicide. Because of the book Martin was prosecuted and convicted of attempted manslaughter and subsequently jailed. . Her reasons for writing that first book, her experiences during the prosecution and trial, the effect on her family and friends and not least her difficult time in a women s prison are all described in this honest and moving account of what happens when someone stands up for their beliefs but breaks the law and divides public opinion in the process. Along the way the wider issues of assisted suicide and voluntary euthanasia are discussed, and the author puts the case for a law change in New Zealand, as well as explaining why she ended up parting ways with Australia's radical champion of voluntary euthanasia Dr Philip Nitschke. . This is the very personal but tough-minded side to the "death with dignity" issue, and is sure to spark further debate with concerned New Zealanders. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
