In "Don't Spill it Again, James" there are three short stories that take place in the book. The author starts the first story by showing a little boy spilling everything because he is not paying attention. His sister is getting really upset and she yells at him causing him to cry and be very upset. The sister ends up cheering him up and makes it all better. This story is trying to get children to understand that words can be hurtful. It shows how people have feelings and everyone has to be careful when they speak to each other. It also teaches children to apologize if they do accidently hurt someone's feelings. The second story, which is called "Skokie", starts out with the two siblings on a train. They are going to a town named Skokie. The ride is going really well at first because they are by themselves, then another passenger comes and sits with them and that person is smoking a pipe on the train. The kids get mad and they start to act up and they make the passenger very mad. At the end they make it up to the passenger by cutting the cake that they had with them and share it with the passenger. The third short story is titled "Goodnight, Sweet Prince." This short story takes place during bedtime and it shows how the older sibling is taking care of the younger sibling. The older sibling is sitting in the living room and sees that James is falling a sleep, the older sibling brings him to bed and takes care of him. He then get up and wants water and different things that the older sibling got so tired that she falls a sleep in his bed. All of these stories show how being kind to someone goes a long way. ( )

Don't Spill It Again, James use rhymes to guide us through moments between two brothers. In the first story, James spills ketchup and his older brother scolds him for it, but he feels bad and makes James smile afterwards. in the second story, James and his older brother are going to Skokie and the story just tells of what the two brothers had to deal with on the ride and the last story is a lullaby of sorts. I am not sure if this story teaches children anything. It is a simple series of stories, more made to pass time and not learn from. ( )

This is a very short review but there is really nothing to say about this book. The three stories are rather dull and boring. The writing and word choice in the story was really bad and I think an elementary grader could of picked better words. The pictures were not great either. Most of the illustrations were bland and small. This book should really stay on the shelf in the library. ( )

This book contains three rhyming stories. My favorite is Don't Spill It Again, James, and it rhymes about a clumsy three and a half year old that spilled ketchup. ( )
