The Family Picture Atlas makes a superb long-term reference with its new, customized mapping fascinating facts, and human-interest picture stories.The Atlas is designed for easy reference. Its main sections are prefaced by comprehensive introductory spreads: "Where on Earth?" details the history of maps, describes how maps are made, and explains rise system used to locate particular places in the world The "Planet Earth" spread locates Earth within the solar system, while the "Air and oceans" and "The living world" spreads snow how the world's ecosystems work. "A world of rich and poor" looks at the economic relationship between the countries and peoples of the First and Third Worlds.Each of the four main sections -- The Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa (followed by Australia, New Zealand, Arctic & Antarctic) -- are introduced by "overview" relief maps. Regions within each section are then shown in detail, with comprehensive information about that area being supplied in a "Face the Facts" box.
