This is a very simple easy to read story for beginning readers. It tells the journey the pilgrims take from being imprisoned to taking their families across the ocean to America. It then very briefly describes their struggles (building homes, planting crops) during the first year culminated in the celebration of the first Thanksgiving. This story is told with only 73 words. The illustrations are nicely done and the family used to tell the story is depicted well. It is very appropriate around Thanksgiving time and would be a great story for those beginning readers. As will all Margaret Hillert Beginning to Read books, there are activities at the end to reinforce reading skills and a word list. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley. ( )

This book briefly describes the Pilgrims' journey and the story of the Thanksgiving. The illustrations are great but the story is obviously for beginners, therefore it is short and direct. Simply the main idea. It is a great resource to teach students how to read. ( )

This book is about a girl and a boy having to move with their mother and father. They moved to an area and they have to work to build there house. The boy and girl saw a man and didn't know if he would hurt them or not. Come to find out the man help the families build there house and also help the boy and girl gather some food for everybody. Once the food was already they gather there families and friends together and have a nice dinner.

Personal reaction
I enjoyed reading the book. The book had alot cool pictures to look at and it was an good book overall. This is my first time to read this book and I would say it would be good for any first, second, and third grader to read.

extension Ideas
1. Have the students to write about there first Thanksgiving that they can remember and share it with the class.
2. Have the students to draw the food that they think that may have been in the story and then talk about it.

Summary: This book tells children the story of Thanksgiving in short form to where they get the main idea. It tells about how the pilgrims were treated wrong and left to seek new land. Once they find their new land they start to settle. The Indians end up finding them and being very helpful.

Personal Reaction: Personally I thought that this book was a great way to introduce this Holiday to children.

Classroom extension: The children can tell me what they do as a family on Thanksgiving.
2nd They can draw a picture of the pilgrims and Indian’s first dinner.
