( ) This is one of the best comics I have ever picked up. It has great art, but that's the least of its merits. What matters here is that unlike most comics, which tend to revolve around the fantastical, letting people indulge in a bit of escapism, Dysart has instead given us a glimpse into the real horrors that have gone on in Uganda and surrounding areas for several decades, largely unnoticed by the rest of the world. It's powerful, very very informative, and he manages to inform us of these atrocities with a wonderfully written and illustrated story. Simply wonderful. The new Unknown Soldier series by Joshua Dysart is a recreation of the old series with not just a new twist, but an entirely different and more compelling backstory. The unknown soldier of the title is Lwanga Moses, a highly respected Ugandan doctor educated in the United States. He and his wife have returned to Northern Uganda to work with international aid organizations and to spread Moses's philosophy of nonviolent resistance against the brutality of both the Ugandan government and the Lord's Resistance Army, a guerilla rebel group of child soldiers. Working in the bush, faced with the worst of man's inhumanity, Moses begins hearing a forceful and violent voice in his head that calls him to action. Not knowing where these impulses come from, he must pit the pacifism he believes in against the Unknown Soldier, the fighting machine he is becoming against his will. This is an incredible series filled with believable moral dilemmas, complex characters, and enough geo-political intrigue for a fourth Bourne movie. I can't wait for the second volume of this comic - it's truly one of the best I've read in the past year. Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

Written by Joshua Dysart Art by Alberto Ponticelli Cover by Igor Kordey "UNKNOWN SOLDIER could be a new Vertigo classic." - The Onion "A story with teeth, unafraid to confront some horrific truths about the world we live in, Joshua Dysart's UNKNOWN SOLDIER is a comic that genuinely matters." - Garth Ennis "This is an immensely brave, intelligent and ruthless piece of work. You need to read it." - Warren Ellis Welcome to Northern Uganda. In 2002, it's a place where tourists are hacked to death with machetes, 12-year-olds with AK-47s wage war, and celebrities futilely try to get people to care. Moses Lwanga is a pacifist doctor caught at the center of this. But when his life is threatened, Moses suddenly realizes he knows how to kill all too well. What is this voice telling him the only way to fix what's wrong with the country is by slaughtering those responsible? And what is Moses' connection to past bandage-wrapped warrior?
