I enjoyed the mystery and drama in this book. Again we have a few different storylines going, though they all seem to connect to the main story and characters. We have a bit of intrigue as well and a surprise to discover something that thus far in the series we'd thought impossible. I really liked the main characters in this one. Hunter, while being an alpha male, seemed less overbearing than the main character in the previous book. At the same time, I appreciated the strong female lead in this book as well. Tessa is going through quite a bit in her life, but doesn't fall apart or shut down, she keeps fighting. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series. ( )

If this hadn't been my airplane book, I don't think I would have finished it. The beginning is fun - cheese-o-rama and melodramatic - and the frequent descriptions of the big-busted heroine's turtlenecks and the manly werewolf hero's manliness were quite entertaining. But after awhile the rhetoric about "real men" and the arbitrary (from what I could tell) differentiation between alpha and beta werewolves went from funny to annoying. By the end, I felt like I was slogging through a morass of makes-no-sense in order to reach the end. If it had been shorter or - better yet - had tighter editing, I think I would have enjoyed it more. It's very unlikely I'll read anything else by this author. ( )

Looking for a little twist in the murder mysteries you’re reading?

Then reach no further than “To Tempt the Wolf” by Terry Spear. It’s a spine tingling murder plot with a sexy romance and a little paranormal added in to keep you guessing. Don’t let the paranormal stop you, you’ll be believing before you know it.

Tessa Anderson is a photographer who’s fascinated by wolves. However, her main objective at the moment is to find the killer of her brother’s girlfriend, Bethany. It’s the only way Tessa can save her brother from prison.

Hunter Greymore and his twin sister are forced to re-locate to the Oregon coast after a wild fire destroys their home.

Tessa finds Hunter on the beach near her home. He’s badly injured and nude and an ice storm is about to hit the area.

How can she refuse him help? Tessa takes him home to treat his injuries. Hunter can’t remember what happened to him or who he is. He does, however, remember that he’s a lupus garou, a grey werewolf.

The couple soon realizes that someone is stalking Tessa. In order to keep her safe, Hunter agrees to help Tessa find Bethany’s killer. Meanwhile, Hunter discovers the stalker could be another werewolf who has set his sights on Tessa. The other werewolf, aided by two companions, is determined to have Tessa for himself one way or another. As his memory slowly returns, Hunter has his hands full trying to keep his world from endangering Tessa.

As the plot thickens and more become involved in the search for the killer, the reader is taken on a roller coaster ride of suspense and terror. Throw in a nosy reporter, the sheriff’s son, and a stray female werewolf and the situation gets even more complicated. It also appears Tessa may have some secrets in her past that would surprise even Hunter.

Amidst all the turmoil, the attraction between Tessa and Hunter heats up. The sexual tension is felt as the two try to stay away from each other only to be drawn together by a primal instinct. The chemistry between the two sizzles to the boiling point. Their sexual encounters will leave you breathless.

“To Tempt the Wolf” will have you on the edge of your seat waiting and wondering what happens next.

Author Terry Spear weaves a tale of human and wolf so intriguing that you will believe in werewolves. You will be mesmerized by the story and captivated by the bond between Tessa and Hunter. When the murderer is finally revealed, you’ll be caught off guard.

This is the third installment in the wolf series by Ms. Spear. The other books include: “Heart of the Wolf” and “Destiny of the Wolf.” “Legend of the White Wolf” is scheduled for release in early 2010. This paranormal romance will have you howling for more and searching for your own “alpha lupus garous.” ( )

Hunter Greymore, an alpha lupus garou, or grey werewolf, has lost his pack. All but his sister have abandoned him due to a forest fire in California and because he refuses to move them to a city. They take up residence in Portland while he finds himself near the cliffs, in the woods. When three wolves take away his sister and he goes after them, Hunter is seriously injured. Tessa Anderson, a human woman who finds herself strangely attracted to wolves, finds him and brings him home. When Hunter discovers that a werewolf is stalking Tessa, he quickly realizes that he must do everything in his power to protect her, even if all he wants is to make her his mate for life.

This is the third book in a series, but I never would have noticed if it didn’t say so on the book and it stands alone very well. I hope that these characters appear in the next book, as I’ve grown fond of them, and I’m looking forward to reading the first two.

For all that the hero of this book is a werewolf (and so are many of the secondary characters), this was a nice romance. The hero isn’t threatening but the stalkers are, which means it’s much easier to champion Tessa with her rescuer than with anyone else, especially not her ex-boyfriend from high school. As a result, the couple worked nicely together, with a great dynamic of their own when it was allowed to come to the fore. At times it feels that the book focuses too much on constant threat and injuries instead of the developing romance, but that may be just a personal preference. For readers of romantic suspense, this wouldn’t be a problem.

Where this book truly shines is the werewolf society and the group dynamics amongst them. The sparring between the alpha leaders is top notch and it’s fascinating to see how wolf habits transcend into human behavior, such as how Hunter’s sister Meara is grumpy not only because she is experiencing her first werewolf “heat” but also has a very human desire for a relationship with someone who can match her in all of her strengths. Hunter is also torn because while he wants to make Tessa his mate, he doesn’t know whether or not she would be an alpha, and if she was a beta, she would never be able to exercise the authority that he does over the pack. It is an interesting, close look into the pack, although I found it a little strange that while Hunter’s pack and their friends are reluctant to turn people, the other packs are not. Perhaps Tessa is just the (un)lucky exception.

All in all, I enjoyed To Tempt the Wolf. It wasn’t an earth-shattering romance for me, and I could have done with less of the suspense, but I am definitely looking forward to following up with the rest of the series. ( )
