Premonitions is a sad story about Gracie whose father is gone and her mother has recently died in a car crash. Gracie moves to Seattle to live with her aunt, Shay and her cousin, Diego. As hard as they try to make her comfortable, Gracie is consumed with the loss of her mother and the guilt that her psychic abilities should have been able to save her. When Gracie's new friend, Emily disappears, Diego convinces Gracie that it is time to use her gift to help someone else. This leads Gracie and Diego into an investigation of Emily's life and those in it who might have had reason to take her and hurt her. The more Gracie uses her gift, the more she becomes aware of the feelings of those around her. Her visions become confusing because Gracie doesn't know whether she is seeing the past, the present, or the future, or even whose life she is seeing. I found this story to be pretty depressing. Gracie's life is in shambles as are the lives of most of the characters she meets. In the end, much of Grace's story is left up in the air as are the lives of the other characters. The book seemed somehow unfinished and left me wishing for more closure. Maybe future books in the series will answer more questions. Blurb: They weren't the ones who could have stopped her. I could have done that. I was the one who saw the future. I was the one who let her go. Grace has premonitions. They've haunted her since before her mother's death. She never knows whether she's seeing the past, the present, or the future. She doesn't know how to deal with them, and she doesn't want to - but the terrifying visions keep coming. Then Grace's best friend Emily disappears. And suddenly the premonitions she's so scared of are the only way Grace might be able to save her friend before it's too late... I thought that this book was good but lacking something. Gracie is a character that grows on you slowly, at the beginning I disliked her and only started properly liking her at the end of the book. The idea that see has premonitions is a clever idea, except she sees the past more than the future. She sees her visions rather like Phoebe in Charmed, by touching an object. The conclusion to this story and the discovery of where Emily really is was a shocking and original idea, one I would have liked to have read more of. The suspense leading up to the discovery of the Kidnapper was definitely worth the read and not someone I would have guessed. Gracie has lost her mother and is so self-absorbed that she ignores a premonition that something bad will happen to her best friend-by-default. When said friend goes missing, Gracie must find her, and uses her psychic gift to lead the way. Pretty well written, story pulled me along for most of the way. Fast read.
