This book is intended for the 7 or 8 year old boy who is into GI Joe. The only redeeming quality about this book is that the subject matter will get the boy interested enough to read it.

It's a poor excuse for a chapter book as the story is short and there is no real distinction between chapters. Captain "Duke" Houser and Lieutenant "Ripcord" Weems have a mission to escort a weapons van through hostile terrain. During the course of the mission they get attacked by Cobra but then the GI Joe team comes to the rescue.

I guess the one element of surprise in the book is that you find out at the end that both Duke and Ripcord are not actually with GI Joe Squad.

Otherwise, the mix of pictures and words in the book I felt were off. Character Development was non existent...and Characters were introduced that you had no idea who they were or why they were there really. But I guess to the young reader who is a fan, they would know due to having information from other sources.

Oh, and for the pacifists out there that want to teach their kids peace and love...this is not the book to read. Plenty of action. Plenty of violence. I say, have caution what you put in a young mind. ( )
