Fairly simple story of a young beauty returning to a small town from her childhood stint at a convent, and all of the young men in town basically losing their minds. Enter some confusion on her part as to which of her young suitors is which, a big fire, some local politics and the beginning of the Mexican-American war and stir it all up and you have all the needed ingredients for this semi-sappy piece by Tarkington....not his best in my book, but a quick read with no regrets.
