Martin Luther King Jr
2. Write the summary of the book.
One of Dr King's greatest gifts was his outstanding speaking ability. As a church preacher, he knew how to use words to inspire and move his listeners and he became the voice of millions of black Americans. His powerful words and examples inspired fighting for justice and equility.
In his most famous speech, given in Washington in 1963, King stated:
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character."
Today, in the USA, black people achieved equility under the law. But white people still tend to have better jobs, more opportunities, and live in better neighborhoods than black people. And there are still many people who are racially prejudice.
3. Write your feelings about the book in details.
King first read Thoreau's essay On Civil Disobedience while he was attending Morehouse College. Written in 1849, this essay advanced the idea that first and foremost people should act according to their own personal sence of right or wrong (See p 14).
I think it's important to act following own personal sence.
4. Write the words, phrases or sentences that impressed you most in the book and explain why they impressed you. Or you could write your questions about the book.
Water from a high-pressure fire hose slams into protesters as Birmingham police attempt to break up a 1963 demonstration (See p 55).
The police took a wrong way to protect them, obviously. I can't believe that. ( )
