The Big Fat Worm is a very simplistic book. I enjoyed it for it minimalistic illustrations and the way it teaching about animals. The illustrations in this book are very minimal. I thought this was very appealing since it creates easy to follow focal points. On the fifth page the illustration is nothing more than a worm on a green background leading your eyes to what it important on the page. I thought that this style of art would make it more appealing and easier to follow for children. I also enjoyed this book because of its way of introducing animals into children’s vocabulary. The story repeats itself often with only the names of the animals changing. One page reads, “The big fat cat said HI BIRD and the big fat bird said HI CAT.” Since all the words are same except for the animal names, it allows children to learn the words without being distracted with other vocabulary that have nothing to do with animals. The main idea of this book is to educate children on the animal names. ( )

This is an good book for young readers. It is about a cat and bird who want to eat the worm. The obstacles that the worm has to go through. ( )
