A very interesting book that covers wars that the author believes are key turning points in world history, which he backs up with interesting but brief arguments. It does put many events in to a better context but each war is covered in a less than 20 pages which results in very condensed versions of events. Some of the early contain much speculation as there is little or no documentation. Probably will prompt me do do some further reading. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Alan Axelrod identifies 18 smaller wars that led to great changes in history, from the Afghan Civil War that precipitated the rise of the Taliban to the Algerine War in 1815, seen as the first war on terror, to King Philip's War in 1675 that, in proportion to the population at the time, was the costliest war in American history and changed the colonies forever. Axelrod takes a fascinating look at the turning points in world history that people often overlook. Filled with more than 75 maps, illustrations, and paintings. An in-depth and gripping read for people who want to know more about important historical events. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

Nonetheless, the work is attractively illustrated and does present some details on little known conflicts such as the first war that the U.S. had against Islamic terrorism during the Barbary wars versus Middle Eastern pirates.
