This story is told by the Grandmother's point of view, and told toward her Granddaughter named Rebecca. The story begins with the picture of the Grandmother writing a letter to her daughter, and the entirety of the book is what the Grandmother is writing to Rebecca. The Grandmother shares the changes that occur in nature when summer is ending and the beginning of winter is coming. Overall, Jean Craighead George wants readers to realize that winter creates changes in nature, and it changes us as well. The pictures are beautifully done and look very life-like to show occurrences that happen with animal lifestyles, and nature in general, when the seasons change. The ending makes for a discussion about changes in weather during each season. This would be a great book to share to students in a lesson about seasons. ( ) Jean Craighead George and illustrator Loretta Krupinski weave together a beautiful story about the transitioning seasons, focusing on Winter. Additionally, George prefaces the book with a note about the solstices and equinoxes, which adds interesting "backstory". In keeping with her usual theme, George is writing about the passing on of knowledge and the importance of older generations teaching new generations, as the book is a letter written by a grandmother to her grandchild. A great book for any child of any age! This story begins with a lady writing Rebecca a letter telling her that winter is here. The book goes through and talks about different animals and how they are adapting to winter. For example, it talks about the bears sleeping and the bees staying home. It talks about children playing in the snow and how before they know it winter will be over and summer will begin. www.jeancraigheadgeorge.com This website has information on the author and the works she has done. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
