A slightly charming one-act from the author of Equus - and there stands the problem. When someone writes Equus, then everything they turn their hand to stands in comparison. And this cannot compare with Equus. It is clearly dated, with ideas and ideals that would seem archaic on today's stage, though the theme of declining love between husband and wife can still resonate in the modern world. The play has a quirky plot, but in places the author tries to hard to create an oddball character, and piles on the oddities too high. He ends up creating a character who is difficult to believe. The climax comes a bit too soon; the reveal is only about half way through the play, and a great deal of talkiness afterward causes the play to lose its appeal. Up to that point, it is intriguing and somewhat compelling, but after the plot twist is exposed, the charm fades fast. This would be all right for a high school play, but might be hard to carry off in any larger setting. ( ) Zeige 3 von 3 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
