Fade to Midnight 4.5 Stars Series note: The plot in this book is a direct continuation of the storyline in Edge of Midnight. As such, it is highly recommended that it be read first even if you skip the earlier books. Found beaten almost to death in a dirty alley, Kev Larsen has suffered from amnesia for 18 years. However, after receiving a blow to the head, Kev’s memories begin returning and he is determined to discover the truth about his past. This inevitably leads him to Edie Parrish with whom he shares an undeniable connection. As Kev and Edie work together, a team of vicious and sadistic pseudo-scientists set their sights on the couple with the aim of continuing their diabolical “research”. After the disappointment of Ultimate Weapon, I was wary of reading Kev’s much awaited story but thankfully, Ms. McKenna is back on track with the series. Edie is a sweet and endearing heroine, and her psychic ability to sketch the future is original and intriguing. She and Kev have “off the charts” chemistry, especially their first scenes together and their romance is intense. My one small problem with her character is that she is too submissive. Despite her small rebellions, she still allows her family to belittle and degrade her - seriously woman, where is your backbone? Despite his physical and emotional scars (or perhaps because of them), Kev comes across as a dark and almost gothic hero, yet he has a core of inner strength that belies his vulnerability and it is impossible not to feel for him. The appearance of the McCloud brothers and their friends is a highlight of the book, and their reunion with Kev is handled exceedingly well. The fact that they immediately rally around their long lost sibling and come to his aid is one of the reasons I adore these characters. As usual, the villains in the book are enough to make your skin crawl and Edie's family is not much better. While the first group receive their just reward, the second gets off a little too easy for my tastes. In sum, a fabulous romance and spin-tingling thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. I enjoyed this book as the author wrapped up the McCloud Brothers series. I did not like the mistakes in the book and feel like the author needs to hire a better proof person because the errors were very easy to spot. Edie and Kev made a great pair and while I thought the story went on too long, I was glad to read Kev's story. I would have enjoyed having the McCloud brothers and their wives in the story a little earlier. The plot was sinister since it was still about Dr. O and his experiments but if you have read the previous books, it didn't take much background to catch on to the plot. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

But here's what I want to know: Where are all the minority characters? Like, actual real representations? As far as I can recall, there have been a bunch of Eastern Europeans, nearly all of whom have been either 100% evil or 100% out of their minds. There have been a few black or brown folks, all of whom have been either perfect victims or perfect stereotypes (one of these is an under-educated black child with a sexually indiscriminate mom). There is one explicitly Asian character who is both a Crazy Villain and a victim. What's going on here? ( )
