Two legends of the comic book industry bring to life the story of gore and lust that inspired Dracula.
Vlad the man had a devilish streak-a vicious temper, a passion for women, and a thirst for revenge.
Vlad the ruler was a true devil-a relentless torturer, a brutal murderer, and a paranoid leader whose megalomania would be his own undoing.
Responsible for the merciless deaths of thousands, this savage 15th century ruler earned himself the moniker Vlad the Impaler. His bloody reign struck terror into the hearts of his disciples and inspired generations of vampire myths-most famously Bram Stoker's ghoulish protagonist, Dracula. However that beloved bloodsucker doesn't hold a candle to the real-life fiend whose brutal treachery has made him immortal.

Auf Draculas Spuren: Die Geschichte des Fürsten und der Vampire. von Raymond T. McNally (JonathanGorman)
JonathanGorman: Presents similar story and characterization of Vlad the Impaler, but with some more detail. I'm guessing "In Search of Dracula" was probably was a strong inspiration for this book. Of course, I've always been dubious about the information in "In Search of Dracula" as well. Seems like a lot of extrapolation from a handful of facts. But it was a good read and I haven't dug into the field enough really to know what is probably a more authoritative book.… (mehr)

Very gory even for a book about the basis for Dracula. The politics could have been written about more clearly then they were and the drawing style was only OK. ( )

An gruesome introduction to the inspiration for the vampire we all know and love. Gore galore! For mature audiences. ( )

Not sure who the audience is for this book. Parts of the story are incredibly violent and has some strong themes of sadism and rape. This is not surprising, given the subject matter. However, a lot of the interesting historical details get glossed over. I could see some young teens loving this book but their parents freaking out on finding it. Had certain scenes not been included though, I could see including it in a collection for a much younger audience. (The reading level seemed low).

It's a quick read, with some good art, but most is just decent. If you really like to collect stories of Vlad, it's not a bad telling. I'm not sure what the historical accuracy the story happens to be.

The ending is somewhat humorous, but also clashes a bit with the rest of the book.

The book itself seems to be based largely off "Search for Dracula", although it has been a long time since I've read that book. ( )

The story of Vlad, Count Dracul, whose name later became the inspiration for Bram Stoker's vampire... ( )
