I wish there were more Max Spaniel books. As far as I know this is the second of only two. This easy reader is fun, and since it’s catrow, you know the illustrations are amazing, and do half the work of telling the story. This time, Max is a great chef. Hat and all. His speciality is Pizza. But order a hot dog. I dare you. ( )

Great for second grade, its a funny book describing how a dog makes lunch. Pictures to go along with words and simple wording but a lot of wording to it. ( )

In this early reader, Max Spaniel, is not a dog, he is a chef, and not just any chef, he is a pizza pie chef. The problem is Max is not a very good chef. When working a the lunch counter, he doesn't understand the customer's orders and then when a large order for pizza's come in Max and his friends make a big mess. In the end, they find a way to fill the pizza order and everyone is happy. The illustrations in this book are wonderful; they're colorful and very entertaining.

This is a great option for beginning readers. The word count is not too long, but the story is very entertaining and clever. There is a lot of humor in the story that the readers will enjoy. I love the illustrations in this book. In addition to being entertaining, they offer children the opportunity to describe the action in the story and practice their speaking, observation, and storytelling skills in a fun way. Other books in this series are definitely worth exploring to add to the classroom library. ( )

Excellent imaginary/realistic artwork. Story about a dog named Max and he is a many-many-many-many generation chef. He and some funny animal-friends help Max run his diner and help him with a big Pizza order. The story has several side jokes and play on words. I liked this book because its from the dog perspective and tells a story within a story. Shows a sequence and its "written", as a predictable book (i think). And the best part for me when I read it was in between the lines problem-solving, sequence and math. ( )
