( ) Although I love this book, the overall movement of the verse is very sophisticated and not easily read through. The story is of a baby's night in the city and all the noises outside, the lights and movement of a busy street in the city. Each page offers a view of the city block through the baby's window and the baby looking down upon it in his many fits and phases of the night. The short verses that accompany the pages almost stand alone, but can be seen as stanzas in a longer work that takes the reader through the night. But the text varies greatly in tone and image from one page to the next and it is recommended that a pause or break is taken between the verses. These two verses, found on one double page spread, seem to typify this contrast: Garbage Man Garbage Man Careful near that dream It could gobble up your garbage truck Then were would you be (opposite page) Night goes Morning comes Baby sings Daddy yawns. The illustrations and the text work to reveal a very rich world and delight in the telling of the story, but be forewarned to carefully prepare before reading out loud. Zeige 2 von 2
This is a book that begs to be read to a small child in her jammies snuggled in your lap, sweet-smelling hair tickling the underside of your chin. AuszeichnungenBemerkenswerte Listen
