This is a chapter book about an old man who lives alone very lonely.He has the best tea and warm muffins, but nobody to share them with. He decided to go to the pet store and picked out an old cat who he later named Tabby. She was old, yellow, and her hair was thinning, just like him! They both ate tea and muffins together, but different ways. Tabby drank tea with cream while Mr. Putter used sugar. They became best friends and couldn't remember life without one another.
This book teaches that you can find friendship no matter what age you are. It also repeats the names of the characters so students will remember who the main characters were when asked to reiterate what took place in the book. ( )

I love this series and am every so thankful that kids do, too. I really want to be neighbors to Mr. Putter and Mrs. Teaberry.  This is apparently the first - it's simply a melt-your-heart story about an old man who finds an old cat to keep him company. ( )
