I'm in a unique position to review this book, as I have also lost my sense of smell. When I saw this book was being published, I thought, "I should've written this," and I looked forward to reading it. Losing my sense of smell surprised me, saddened me (I LOVED candles, scents, etc), and reminded me that all our senses work together. I also realized, when I couldn't smell an active gas leak, that it can be dangerous. That being said...the author was too dramatic in her recounting of the loss of smell, her constant "don't go there," when she'd ponder life without smell, and her taking her daughter to her appt, because she was upset, etc, just struck me as too much...and again...I've been there. She's a good writer, and that got me through 3/4 of the book...I finally got tired of the dramatics, and I flipped to the end to see what happened. She also just skimmed over the return of smell...which, to me, deserved more dramatic dialogue, because you appreciate things you took for granted in the past. I wanted to love this book...but I didn't. Zeige 2 von 2 keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
In this engaging memoir, Blodgett recounts how she lost her sense of smell and ultimately learned the most transformative lesson of all: the olfactory nerve, in ways unlike any other in the human body, has the extraordinary power to heal. Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
