I'd never heard of this author before this book, so when I found that her research skills were matched by her skillful use of words, I knew I'd found something special. This is a great book to read when teaching about amphibians, the environment, or even life cycles. It opens the door to discussion on other animals whose lives have been impacted by human encroachment such as diamond-backed terrapins and some species of sea turtles who suffer from a similar predicament when human roads or hotel lights severely hinder their mating process each year. There are so many ways to use this book to educate children, and that's just the content. The writing is equally useable. This is just a great book all the way through. ( )
