Oh, I'm delighted. There are imperfections, but I really like this character, this unusual way of bringing us into a story, and how fully a person she is. ( )

first novel in this Scandinavian mystery series, set in Kiruna in Lappland. a bit awkward and tentative at the start, but it builds nicely to provide plenty of suspense, and both the setting and the characters are well-written and intriguing. i'm gonna read a bunch of these now, as i like the Scandinavian Dark style, and i'm interested to see what she does with it over time. ( )

Review: Sun Storm by Asa Larsson. 3.5 07/31/2022

This story’s setting is Sweden where there are bitter cold days, covering snow, and the aurora borealis. The author’s characters were well developed and she gave us an admirable heroine in a mystery thriller. The story starts out with a young Priest brutally murdered in his church. His sister Sanna found him and now she is being accused of killing him.

The detectives investigate but as far as the chief prosecutor on the case already decided that the priest sister is guilty because vital evidence is found hidden in her home. Sanna reaches out to Rebecka Martinsson for support and who works at a law practice in Stockholm. However, before Rebcecka can support Sanna she needs to deal with her own past with the pastors at the church and the town she left disgraced years before.

The story does shift back and forth between the past and present, old times, plus modern relationships, and the rural and city standards. Larsson writes a compelling story that keeps the reader interested to the very end. ( )
