Travelling photographer Richard Sobol presents rice not as a simple grain or food, but rather as a source of life itself. More of a travel journal than an information book, The Life of Rice focuses on rice and rice culture in Thailand, giving readers a glimpse into Thai culture and the process surrounding the planting, growing, and consumption of rice. Somewhat disappointing if you're looking for a more science-oriented view of rice, it more than makes up for this with stunning photography--there are some truly beautiful pictures in here. ( )

This was an informative book about how rice grows and all the process it goes through. It was a good book but not too interesting. I think it would be appropriate for a fifth grader. ( )
