Ray Brown is one of the foremost Catholic experts on the early church. Since there is no reliable evidence on what the churches were really like, he does a very creative redactive criticism on the gospels and epistles to arrive at conclusions about what the churches were like. I found his methodology completely unconvincing, and, therefore, thought the conclusions unwarranted. Your mileage may vary. ( )
