A latest edition to the teen Chicken Soup series focuses on the ups and downs of friendships: making them, keeping them, fighting them, losing them, helping them, and competing with them. The second book in the breakthrough series gives teens the real scoop on the ups and downs of friendship in a stylish package complete with sidebars, quizzes, cool graphics and, of course, great stories from teens for teens. The Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul books have sold more than 15 million copies, and they continue to be the strongest selling Chicken Soup backlist. This new series keeps the best of the old (the stories teens love) with the best of the new-ldquo;teen talkrdquo; text breaks, splashy graphics, sidebars, quizzes and other cool features. The second book in the series, after The Real Deal School, explores all facets of the classic obsessions of every child from ages 9-19: friends-making them, keeping them, fighting them, losing them, helping them and competing with them. And there are no lectures here: this is the straight talk from teens for teens that this audience loves. Friends, you gotta have 'em, but sometimes they drive you crazy. You love 'em, but sometimes they make you mad. They'll help you through a crisis...unless they are the crisis. So What's the Deal? Friends are more than just the people you hang out with. They make you laugh, they keep your secrets, they offer advice (some good, some bad), they give you a shoulder to cry on. Sometimes they move away, or betray your trust, or flake out, but mostly they are the people who are always there for you. And they know you'll be there when they need you most. Because that's what it means to be a friend. Sometimes friendship is overwhelming, sometimes it's confusing, sometimes you feel like you don't have a friend in the world, but don't worry, it's like that for everyone. That's what the stories in this book are all about. They're from real teens, and they're about the bizarre, difficult and wonderful things that really happened to them and their friends. Put that together with weird facts, cool graphics, fun advice and quizzes designed to help you figure out what you and your friends are all about, and you've got the real deal on friendship!… (mehr)

Tough Topics: Best Friends, Worse friends, old friends, new friends, lost friends, false friends, and true friends.
I’m sure you have heard of the Chicken soup books. These books are about Teenagers who tell their stories. Every Chicken soup book has its own topic. I decided to read about friends. In this book there are no main characters. Yes, in the short stories, but not in the entire book. Each story is from different teenage boys and girls. There are different settings and conflicts and resolutions. All these stories have one thing incommon: Friends. My favorite short story is titled For Her Own Good. It was about two friends. Callie had a boyfriend, who did not respect her. The other friend shows her what she is doing, and that she is too young to be doing the nasty. And Callie’s friend basically points her in a better direction. My least favorite are the poems. I mean, I like poems but with so long ones they lose their touch. I think teenagers should read this book. Especially teens who have problems. Since these stories are by teen for teens, you can other kids might be in the same situation. Then you won’t fell like the only one, it’s normal. Teenage boys and girls should read these books. I would give this book a 5. It’s very interesting seeing all these teens who have such problems. Once a teen reads it they are going to learn from the experiences in the book.

Relationships, friendship, family and more are found in this guide for teens. Helping teens become a whole person, this guide is much like a Bible for teens as it guides teens through their toughest of times. ( )

The editors of this book offer moving stories from real teens to help other teens examine the friendships in their own lives. Teen readers will easily be able to relate to any of the numerous stories that cover a wide range of topics from true friends, love interests and even the death of friends. The extras in this book such as the many friendship quizzes, recommended readings and movie references will definitely grab the teen audience. Teens dealing friendship issues will find comfort in this self-help book. ( )

This book would be a good read for a teen who was struggling with what it means to be a friend and have friends. It shows how other teens experience the same things and that good can come from things that don't seem good. It was an easy read because it is broken up into shorter pieces so teens can pick up and put down this book easily. ( )
