Looking to add to and subtract from our existing collection and would like some help with titles you have read and enjoyed lately. Our fellowship is very international and English isn't always the first language so I don't want to get too technical but do want to enrich our patrons. Suggestions???

I always recommend The Divine Dance by Richard Rohr. It's a very readable and yet profound reflection on the Trinity.

I recommend most things written by N.T. Wright such as Simply Christian, Simply Jesus, or The Day the Revolution Began. If you're not familiar with him, he's Anglican and IMO orthodox when it comes to doctrines. Readers can expect to be blessed with a deeper understanding of our faith. He's my favorite Christian author.

>3 pmackey: Be aware that Wright has published everything from popular works easy for anyone to read to very academic books that are hard work for even those with theological training. Books with 'Tom Wright' on the cover are generally popular. If N T Wright is on the cover, you probably want to preview. http://www.librarything.com/series/Christian+Origins+and+the+Question+of+God is not for the faint of heart.

The complete C. S. Lewis collection is a must-have. There is constant renewal available in his books.

Most recently, I'm working my way through the "Origins" series: New Testament and the People of God, etc. They are VERY good, but not easy. I've made it through three of the four.
I think my favorite book, overall, by Wright is The Day the Revolution Began. Had to read it, though, with a Bible beside me so I could refer to the passages discussed.

Another favourite of mine by Wright is The case for the Psalms : why they are essential. This one is very accessable.
Other recent reading that might be interesting:
The lion's world : a journey into the heart of Narnia
The Hebrew Bible as literature : a very short introduction The series tends to be very good, and this one was excellent. The Apocryphal Gospels : a very short introduction was good, but not as good.

Frances M Young is a Methodist minister, an expert on the early chuch, and the mother of Arthur, a man with a severe learning disability.
Robert Alter's translations with commentary are about as close as you can get to reading the original of the Old Testament without learning Hebrew.
The Eucharist : origins and contemporary understandings At the time I wrote: Don't read this if you want to stay convinced that your church's way of celebrating the Eucharist is the right one. ****1/2
A nearly infallible History of Christianity British humour, and a good overview of church history.

I apologize. I thought you could discuss and recommend books that you liked and related to the topic. I have both of these books listed in my library. I thought this was allowed in LIBThing Groups. The purpose was to help members learn about new books that might be of interest. I am new to LIBThing and I assumed this was allowed. Sorry if I offended anyone. I will not use LIBThing anymore.

No. You misunderstand. If authors were allowed to do that, LT would be disastrously remade, and most members would run screaming for the door.

Some of Bevere's Titles are The Bait of Satan, Undercover, Relentless, Good or God, Honors Rewards, etc.
Pastor Morris also has great books such as The God I never knew, The Blessed Life, Frequency, Truly free, Take the Day off, etc.
Both authors are easy to read and convey some very important teaching that can revolutionize peoples lives.
