It's looking increasingly unlikely that Twitter will ever be reliable again, and at this point there are probably too many potential replacements to warrant individual sharing for each one.
Therefore it would be nice if, as originally proposed by jjmcgaffey in Bug Collectors HERE, the "share this review to social media" popup could generate the same text as before, but without requiring a connection to Facebook or Twitter, so that it can be copied and pasted to Twitter or any other social media.

jjmcgaffey's original proposal:
"A request - could there be a third checkbox (at least until Twitter finally goes under) that just makes the text of the standard post? I don't use Facebook. I was posting on Twitter, but not recently (by choice). However, I'd click the Twitter checkbox, copy the text that resulted, cancel that dialog box, and post on Mastodon. Could we get a checkbox just for generating the text, to post as the user pleases?
Yeah, I can write up the text for each review post. But it's much faster to have it generated, with the proper links. Pretty please?
Or the same thing - a third tab when you click on Share This from Your Feed, with the text. It's more of a nuisance to go over there to share, but it would work, if a third checkbox isn't doable."

I do like this idea and would use it.

I'm tracking this RSI to see how much traction it gets, just chiming in that I'm seeing this as an LT staffer. :)

I'll just also comment that I've been having trouble with sharing to facebook for a while, as well. Unless I clear my cache every.single.time. So, I gave up a while back on sharing from here and share to facebook from Goodreads (boooo).
I'd much rather share from here. While using GR to share to f/b, I was still sharing from here to twitter, but with that no longer an option... I'd rather go back to sharing to both from here. :-)
Such a link with some text included would make that so much easier/faster.

I would use this, too. I am a bit cranky about not being able to just share a rating or review to Twitter (X) anymore. Not that anyone is still reading my posts...

Is "X" pronounced "cross"? Is a re-tweet now a "double-cross"?
Or perhaps it's "ten," and a re-tweet is a "twenty."

Indeed, I've never had a Twitter account and rarely read any posts there. Musk destroying the thing has little immediacy for me.

Very good suggestion.
I would appreciate and use a copy link.

Okay, so: we'll be doing some simple copy/post method for social media review sharing soon! Stay tuned for updates.

Thank you! As someone who has never used Twitter or Facebook it will be much appreciated.

Hooray! Thanks, norabelle414 , I didn't see kristilabrie 's request for an RSI until now.

Given that Xitter, having tired of shooting itself in the foot with a mere popgun, has rolled out the heavy artillery in the form of discussing moving to a pay-only model, I think greater flexibility would be great - there's no clear replacement as yet (as norabelle414 says in #1) so it's not worth building out something specific for Mastodon or Bluesky (which is where I've landed) or Threads.

>18 lorax: Agree, and I also landed on Bluesky

Bump, we still need to do this.

hi, idk if you guys are still receiving opinions about this, but it would pleasure me so much if the message also included the stars of the review! similar to letterboxd? :)
22jjmcgaffey
Huh. I think the old Twitter text did, and yes that was good.
I'm improvising by using my reading spreadsheet to create the text and copy/pasting it to Mastodon...I'll try to add the stars.
