Importing special characters

I'd like to import our Danish library's book spreadsheet as a csv (my only option), but the special vowel characters turn into black diamonds with a ? inside. Has anyone had experience with importing special characters?

Thanks!

I found the information by chance this morning when reading about patron accounts. Towards the end there are Rules for Importing Patrons>Pro-Tips, which states, "If you have special characters or diacritics in your patron import file, make sure you encode/save your .csv import file in UTF-8 format..."

Maybe I missed that in the Import section somewhere? If not, adding it would be good.
