There is a little typed letter tucked inside my Dad's copy of this book, undated, but noted "Rec. 22.2.68". Addressed to "Librarian, Civil Aviation", it reads: "Returned herewith 'The Super Men'. / It is without doubt the poorest book on the subject I have ever read. Full of flights of fancy, inaccuracies, plain mistakes, and a lot of repetition. It seems that the authors have just lumped together all sorts of information gleaned from other sources and Depts. And in some cases embroidered it to suit themselves. / For instance, it purports to review the industry up to 1967 yet lots of facts and figures – the chapter on accidents is a case in point – the papers they have used are many years old and out of date. / To add to all this it is very poor writing. / Thought you might like to know in case anyone else asked about it. / It might deceive the layman but anyone remotely connected with the industry would see through it.
