This is a concise, yet surprisingly in depth look into the reasons why the American colonists reacted as they did in response to the Coercive Acts placed upon them by the British Parliament. It questions why the colonists reacted so harshly to these Acts when they had not responded so violently to previous Acts. It describes the key players and their involvement such as Sam and John Adams and the key colonies involved, namely Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland. Ammerman discusses the fact that the colonists quickly went from being divided in their reactions to the Coercive Acts to a seeming consensus on how they should proceed, and how they communicated with one another in order to reach this consensus. One point which Ammerman pointed out which I found very interesting was the fact the the British government discussed plans of seizing some of the American leaders in order to try them for treason in the hopes of subduing the colonists.… (mehr)
