Dead, but Not for Long by Matthew Kinney

In Lansing Michigan a horrid outbreak occurs. A nurse and a security guard to help the people. Soon they find that the virus has spread and the infected dead are trying to infiltrate. Will they be able to save the uninfected and themselves, or will it be too late?

A fast paced thrilling tale of suspense and horror. The story is original, filled with a lot of intense moments. Very detailed it feels as if you are part of this nightmare. Those who love thrilling zombie stories will enjoy Dead, but Not for Long.… (mehr)

I purchased this book for free on Amazon for my kindle. This is one of the best Zombie books I have ever read. I was impressed with the characters, the plot twists, and the twist on the virus. Snake was by far my favourite character; love how tough he is, yet we are allowed to see his rarely seen soft spots. Great Read.

If you're a zombie aficionado like myself, you know that Hospitals = Death. So I was delighted to see a book break that mold. Dead but Not for Long shadows a diverse group of survivors as they work together to secure just such a death trap while continuing to care for patients. Physicians, nurses, patients, security guards and even a hardcore group of do-good Christian bikers fight for their lives, and the safety of their new sanctuary as death takes hold of Lansing, Michigan. Dead but Not for Long is multifaceted. There is no shortage of gory zombie action paralleling the personal growth of each character. Difficult choices are made and loved ones are lost. I have to admit that "Dead, but Not for Long" is one of the best zombie books I've read to date. Why? It's a book about normal, everyday people, who band together and try to survive in a hostile new world; everyone pitching in for the common good of the group.

Most of the story takes place within a small hospital in Lansing, MI. where all of the staff and patients on the bottom two floors are killed, reanimated and now seeking prey of their own. A male nurse, janitor, two security guards and other staff members make a stand on the third floor; slowly clearing it and the upper two floors of zombies. The siege continues while other survivors arrive and bolster the defenses. The characters are well developed and I felt somewhat of a special bond with them - all except one, Eric, who irritated me to no end; a self-claimed expert of everything, but actually, a world renown "slug". I especially liked the bikers. Their wit, sarcasm and camaraderie was uplifting - pitching in and working very hard to help protect this "outpost". It is sad when some of the characters I've come to know, fall during battle.

The authors have a knack for creating situations that appear hopeless, readers will find themselves holding the book tighter, squeezing their knees together while plowing through the words to see how it shakes out. There are peaks like this throughout the story. Once the government and military get involved, things begin to change. Will they be saviors or...?

Some surprises are shared at the end, but then the story just stops short. However, it is a great story and I really enjoyed it...I will be watching for the sequel. Great job authors! Highly recommended!
