Chocolate Mixer is a story about a young multi-racial girl, Sofia learning about how she came to look like she does. Young children wonder why they or their friends look different. This story may help them to learn a little about the reasons why everyone has different skin colour, but that does not mean they are not the same in other ways. This story made Sofia and her brother feel special as all children should. There aren't very many books that address this issue, although more and more are being published all the time. This book is easy to understand for young children and is told in a simple way to help them understand about being multi-racial and to raise their awareness about the fact that there are many multi-racial people in the world. The illustrations in the book really fit the story well. They were extremely bright and colourful showing a happy family and children. This is definitely a book that could be used in a classroom learning about diversity as well as being in a family library.
