S. E. Babin

This actually is the second book in the Funeral Fakers book series; I read the second one first. It is an enjoyable book, easy to read and a strange concept to understand, hiring someone to pretend to be someone else at a funeral. That’s what the main character does since she left Hollywood after a terrible embarrassment and finding it hard to get other acting jobs. The book was good, the characters were okay but it didn’t grab my attention that much. I did like the surprise ending. If you want an easy read, this one will do it for you.… (mehr)

Challenge 15 for the 2019 Read Harder Challenge is "a book of folklore or mythology.". While it's probably not what Book Riot had in mind, I just finished S. E. Babin's Out of Practice Aphrodite. Think Olympus crossed with Sex and the City. Aphrodite and Artemis gadding about town with Ares, Hermes, Orpheus and Eurydice, Zeus and Hera, the three Fates, Harpies, and the sexy Sheriff of Asheville, North Carolina thrown in for good measure. Something evil is going on, and Mr. Big, I mean Zeus, sends Aphrodite to sort it out. Of course he doesn't give her all the facts; she has to do some of the brain work herself with the help of her friends. Not great literature, but definitely a fun read, and the first in a long series of novels centered on the Goddess of Love and her life in 21at Century America.… (mehr)
