I received a copy of this book for free through LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers program. My kids and I enjoyed this book thoroughly. The perfect amount of suspense paired with the perfect amount of warm-fuzzies. They are all building tunnels in the snow and wishing for friends like Yarp now! The 4-year-old was a little heartbroken at the ending, but the rest of us agreed that it was bittersweet. It was also really nice to read Canadian content, having words like 'toque' and concepts like avalanche safety worked seamlessly and naturally into the story.… (mehr)

After an accident at school and an unusual encounter with a secret beast, Henry goes searching for the creature and makes an amazing discovery. Now, he wants to help his new friend, but trouble at school puts strain on his friendships, so who can he look to for support?

An entertaining story, though it might be better to ask someone in the right age group. From an adult's perspective, this book reminds me of my grade school days in winter-time, and navigating the intricacies of school yard social norms just as Henry does. The illustrations are charming, and though some parts of the story seem a little far-fetched, that's sort of the point, isn't it?

Snow forts, snowball fights, hidden tunnels, and a couple of prehistoric creatures make an adventurous story for kids.… (mehr)
