Rob Bauer

This is a good history of nineteenth century baseball. Bauer has done an impressive amount of research, and it is mostly well-presented. It does get a bit repetitive at times though when a point is made and supported with endless examples when three or four were enough to prove the point. My only other qualms with the book were a couple of awkward word choices (such as using the chemical formula for alcohol rather than the word, which felt a bit too cute) and a couple of sentences that appeared to have been half-edited where a word or two were changed when reworking a sentence but another word wasn't so that I as the reader could tell where the author started and were he wanted to go but was left with a nonsensical sentence. Other than these minor issues, it was a good book for baseball history fans, and I recommend it.… (mehr)
