The writing is very good but the content just wasn't for me. I feel readers should know up front there is a lot of graphic child abuse in the book. I just couldn't stand to read it so I skimmed much of the book. The love story of Zeb and Laurel was sweet but not enjoyable due to all of the angst. I did love Kaila!!
Yeah, this one was good. I love those dark, dark, taboo, splattergore, cray-cray stories!

There is nothing really wrong with this, it just isn't for me.
Some parts I liked but mostly I didn't enjoy it all that much.

I'm not going to lie and say that I was comfortable at parts of this book. Trust me, I was not. I almost had to stop reading thinking I'd finally discovered my hard limit when it comes to dark. However, when I put my mind to these characters not being real and more along the lines of "characters" that we're in the movie A Nightmare Before Christmas, it became bearable. I could not allow my head to think of them as real people.
The World-building was exceptional, so much so that even though I was not comfortable with some of the scenes, I still wanted to continue on. That says something about this author and her writing skills. Heed my warning that there are triggers, A LOT of them, but this is a series about dirty and depraved heroes so it works.… (mehr)
