Story of Catholic Church in early Kansas history
1473 Kansas Monks: A History of St. Benedict's Abbey, by Peter Beckman, O.S.B. (read 26 Dec 1977) This is a 1957 history of the abbey and is absorbing reading. While the institution began about 1857, no abbot was elected till 1876. I was intrigued by this book, even though it is pretty much a work-a-day book, not too well organized. (My daughter Sandy was at Benedictine College and so I had visited the Abbey at Atchison--thus my interest in this particular institution.)
