⭐⭐⭐ 1/2

DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA...with little character development, insta-love, relationships introduced as established broken under the first sign of pressure, all characters are intertwined...and it works for what it is.

My first "soap-y" story...I'm curious about what happens next, not sure if that curiosity will extend beyond book 2, but we'll see.

Just as good as book one with a cliff hanger ending.

Cue the organ music as this fun and fast moving soap opera moves steadily through the lives of a small handful of friends. There is everything in this story that you'd find in a night time soap. Cheating, money, high paying jobs, the scheming wife, sex galore, kidnapping and even murder and that's only in book one. Written in smooth easy to read chapters, the story jumps from each well developed couple to the next. I'd never watch it on television but I'm hooked now.

Boystown: Season one is the first part of a multipart series. Its storyline begins here in part one but is in no way resolved here. Instead, this is merely the first part of a series. Season One introduces a few subplots that will probably comprise the overall plot of the series. It also introduces lots of characters, some of which do not enter until very near the end of the book. By the end of this long series of books, perhaps each of these characters will have a place, but in this first part, there are simply too many.
Beyond its extensive list of characters is a long list of relationships, requiring the reader not only to recognize one character from another but one relationship from another.
The writing is pedestrian, simple and straightforward with no attempt at eloquence or impressiveness. In some cases, it lacks the detail needed. In other cases, it presents elements and situations that lack authenticity.
The storylines really did not begin developing until fairly far into the book They seemed interesting and almost suspenseful, but true suspensefulness required stronger, more finely tuned prose.
Overall, I was disappointed. If I were the type who likes books that continue their plots from one volume to the next, I may have held a higher opinion of the book. As it is, it just makes me wish I had read something else.
