Respected Quaker author Elise Boulding gave this address in 1993 as part of a Pendle Hill lecture series, "The Peace Testimony in Changing Times." At the time she was coming to the end of her five-year service as Secretary-General of the International Peace Research Association.

Elise Boulding who died in 2010 was born in Oslo and emigrated to America with her parents in 1928 She was a Quaker, Sociologist, and Peace activist known for her holistic, multi-dimensional approach to peace research and conflict resolution and the dynamics these two opposites play within the family unit. Collected together in this book is a series of personal essays that explore the concept of peacebuilding as a daily process and how the lessons learned at the family level can be applied to peacebuilding on a world scale.
