Pretty much the same as volume 1 except in Black & White (I guess it wasn't doing well enough to keep paying a colourist). So ridiculous and so 70's.

Oh boy. The Underbase is the highlight and that's because Starscream gets the spotlight.

"Fullstrength Motleypuss!" is about as good as it gets.

The Smelting Pool and The Bridge to Nowhere, a 2-issue story (#17,#18) are outstanding. They make up significantly for what is otherwise a jumbled mess due to the need for Budiansky to constantly introduce new toys with progressively more whacky plots.

Gets dramatically better when Budiansky takes the reigns. Also Shockwave.

Oof, even Furman gets stuck introducing new characters every month.

Car wash of Doom.

A fine package for one of the classic transformers time travel epics. Whilst the art is pretty shonky by today's standards there are some fantastic images here and some great moments. The drama moves along nicely, with action bits and quiet bits fitting together nicely. Also includes some American G1 stories from the same time that aren't as good but still have some good bits. Please don't ever mention Skids' off switch again.

This was the first Transformers comic I ever got, age 5. I had been given a Windcharger for christmas, I don't know if I had asked for it or if it was a speculative gift, and this little red car had sparked off a childhood obsession. This edition sees all the Autobots deactivated and strung up, except for medic Ratchet, and he needs to take on the entire armies of the Decepticons to somehow get them back. It must have seemed awfully heroic to 5 year old me!

A nightmare attempt to get this entry right!

How does Catilla get killed by a single swordblow? Was it an incredible fluke? It must have been millions to one.

Pretty good but why would the desert heat of Mexico be too much for Carnivac but not for the Mayhems? Poor design of his pretender shell?

A hellhound? What? Why? Do Transformers have hell? Do Transformers have dogs? What? Extra half-a-star for Carnivac.½

Honestly, there's not a lot you can say about this. The best bit is also the worst bit. A giant lizard climbing a skyscraper with a woman in its hand being attacked by tiny robots and then getting struck by lightning. Nonsense

Its easy to read Prime's Rib as nonsense, but actually its very telling.. See, Transformers don;t understand human gender due to not having thousands of years of patriarchy, so when pressured to build a female Transformer by those awful feminists (hssss!) they build one that apparently reflects mainstream western gender roles, rather than one that is able to reproduce or one that isn't macho and fighty. This is, of course, unacceptable to feminists because this is partly what they are fighting against. That the fault in this is given to the feminists rather than Transformers or patriarchy says a lot, but theres some primitive critique there.½

Scorponok does have some wacky plans. Micromasters, surprisingly, are not one of them.

You can pull a pretender out of their shell with a giant magnet. Presumably only if its shaped in the classic cartoon magnet shape!

Landmine kicks some butt and then hides inside himself. Why not, eh.

Sky Lynx does get himself into some fixes. He might not be quite the star he claims to be.

I was saddened to learn that robotic life forms face murderous bigotry at many places in the universe. I can understand Transformers not being popular, what with four million years of war and all that, but not all robots are murderous grudge-bearers with the ability to change into weapons of mass destruction.½

Pretender Beasts sent packing, Fortress Maximus goes back in his box. Ski-trip a write-off.
